Funk rock was born in the United States in the late 1960’s when Little Richard’s band The Upsetters decided to bring together the elements of rock and roll with funk. This fusion style was later followed by the likes of David Bowie, Betty Davis, the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Aerosmith, thus funk rock gained massive popularity. Although a wide array of different instruments can be incorporated in funk rock songs, the genre is defined by prominent bass, heavy drum beat and loud electric guitars.
