Bossanova is a high tempo musical genre born in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro in the late 1950’s. Inspired by samba and jazz music, bossanova is famous for its “different beat” made of altered harmonies and the syncopation of traditional samba. Milton Banana is considered as the father of bossanova by many scholars as he created the bossa beat which is strongly tied to the tamborim of samba school. One of the most prominent characteristics of bossanova is the manner it synthesizes samba rhythm using classical guitar. Having themes of love, nature, women and homesickness, bossanova tracks offer a cheerful escapism to their listeners.
