Coined by the influential American producer and DJ Dave Nada, moombahton is a portmanteau of Moombah (an upbeat track by DJ Silvio Ecomo and DJ Chuckie) and reggaeton (a subgenre of reggae music). Born in Washington, United States in 2009, moombahton derives its musical influence from Dutch house, Afrobeats, house, electro house, dance hall and reggae fusion. Most moombahton tracks have 100-128 bpm tempo, which implies a strong reggaeton influence. The most famous characteristics of moombahton are two-step pulse, heavy and spread-out bass line, and quick drum fills. As a result, it is safe to state that moombahton is a somber, slowed-down version of the blend of house and club music. See our moombahton archive below to explore this subgenre.
