As a subgenre of electronic music, house music was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1983. Many scholars consider house music as the successor of disco. Deriving its stylistic inspiration from Latin soul, boogie, disco, electro, jazz and Hi-NRG, house is famous for its 120-130 bpm tempo and very repetitive four-on-the-floor beat. As a result, house music has a more mechanical beat and significantly deeper basslines than other subgenres of electronic music. Supported in its early days by influential DJs from Chicago and New York, house music has managed to influence pop music and dance music.
