One of the most influential subgenres of rock, indie rock was born in the late 1970’s and has its cultural origins in the United Kingdom and United States. In the early 2000’s, indie rock became what we know and love today –due to the undeniable influence of four major bands: The Strokes, The Vines, The White Stripes and The Hives. Inspired by punk rock, college rock and post-punk, indie rock is a guitar-forward genre mainly concerned with offering “authentic” songs characterized by emotional and ironic lyrics. Catering to non-mainstream listeners, indie rock tracks offer a fresh breath of air to those fed up with commercial works.
